Never settle for anything less than the best. That has always been my personal philosophy for as long as I can remember. And I think it has been a pretty sound one too. So far it has not failed me, and I am pretty confident that I can always count on it whenever I need guidance about things. Having a firm belief that quality should be one’s only standard is an excellent guide for making decisions. I’m finding it to be applicable in most aspects of my life, although it is particularly useful when being applied to products and items. There are times when it has cost me quite a bit, but at least I am confident that I’m not shortchanged over the overall quality and performance.
A particularly nice example is my interest in watches. I am not really trying to build a serious watch collection, although that is what seems to be happening. As I tend to like and become interested in some watches from time to time, it is important to me to apply my philosophy. That would prevent me from just buying anything by impulse, and instead focus on getting the best that’s available out there. Right now my interest is pretty high on aviation watches, and I have bought a couple already. The first thing that I liked about it is how stylish it is and how well made each watch is. The aesthetics alone were indeed enough to lure me into buying it. But learning about the different features it has, and of course the performance of this particular type of watch.
My Aviation Watch List
Here are what I consider to be essential parts of the best aviation watches list, and I already have a couple of these, and plan to add a few more.
• Casio GW – 3500B – 1A – Being a big fan of Casio’s G-Shock, I am also very excited about their aviation series, and this new model has certainly gotten my attention. This new LCD reverse watch is definitely designed for high acceleration and of course, flying. Features tough movement and solar power, with the hands making adjustments accordingly. Six bands atomic timekeeping, radio set, and is rated to 15 seconds per month if there is no signal. Water resistant for up to 200 meters (660 feet). Sells for about $260.00.
• Bell and Ross Instrument BR 01-92 Compass – With a look that is inspired by the design of the aviation compass, this watch from Bell and Ross can surely catch anyone’s attention with its looks. Instead of having hands for telling the hours and minutes, this watch uses disks that rotate underneath a stationary vertical line. The top window shows off the time, and with the other side of the disks visible underneath. Features automatic ETA 2892 movement, stainless steel 46mm PVD – finished case, leather and rubber strap, and sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. Water resistant for up to 100 meters (330 feet).
• Prometheus Recon 5 – A hand winding aviator, the Prometheus Recon 5 classy and great performing aviation watch. Features sapphire crystal and caseback, brown leather strap with thorn buckle, SuperLuminova hands and indices, easy winding and setting with a large non-screw down crown, is water resistant for up to 50 meters (165 feet). Priced at about $366.00.
