The word icon is not used very lightly. When something is considered an icon, you know that it has made an extraordinary mark. It means that it has definitely gone beyond the usual expectations that people have about that particular thing, and have gone on seemingly unprecedented levels of quality. It is a word that definitely only applies to things that are considered to be the best of its kind, or those that are not too far from it. I have actually heard it used to describe individuals rather than objects or items, but you get the idea as it pertains to the very same thing, and that is excellence.
On my part, if I am to be asked if what specific item or product will perfectly fit the word, then I would have to go with watches. Indeed timepieces are always built with class, some really great and cool designs, and always performing and functioning in an almost perfect manner. Proof that I really place a very high regard to watches is the fact that some of my most coveted items ever happen to be watches. Yes, they figure quite prominently in my wish list year in and year out. The reason that I still haven’t gotten most of my dream watches is because they are priced quite high, but I still intend on buying all of it someday.
My Must-have List
I have listed down a part of my extensive watches must-have list, and I hope to begin collecting it real soon. Some of these are the most iconic watches of all time:
• Rolex Submariner – This timepiece definitely defines what an iconic watch should be. It is easily the most recognizable watch that is still produced anywhere on the planet. Probably the best proof of that is that it is the most counterfeited watch in the world. Its prominence has been consistent right from its introduction in 1954, and gained its worldwide iconic status by being featured in many James Bond films. Known for its water resistance, there is little reason to doubt that watch will remain at the top for years to come.
• Patek Philippe Nautilus – Intended as a sports dress timepiece upon its release in the late 70’s, the Patek Philippe Nautilus instead defined what a steel sports watch should be. The initial release featured only a limited number of watches, which probably contributed even more to its rise in status. Created to look like the porthole on any ship, the Nautilus is worth buying for the movement alone.
• Tag Heuer Aquaracer – The Aquaracer by Tag Heuer is quite popular both because of its excellent quality, and for being made by a company that has been known for its top notch watch making since 1860. Style and performance are definitely fused into one great package with the Aquaracer, which is water resistant up to 500 meters, possessing an elegant dial and beautiful bracelet.
